Though Raleigh is not generally known as a college town, it does have quite a large student population as the home of NC State, William Peace University, and Meredith College. That means there are plenty of places for students to go to socialize. So if you’re looking for a night out on the town, there’s ample nightlife near North Carolina State University. Here is just a snapshot of the places to go to have fun and meet new friends.

Rum Runners is a piano bar located in downtown Raleigh. It hosts a designated college night each Wednesday for students over 21. College night specials include $2 mystery beers, $1.50 well drinks, and no cover charge if you arrive before 10 p.m. with your student ID. For entertainment, a DJ spins beats from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. and a dueling piano show kicks off at 9 p.m. and runs until close.

Another option is Mitch’s Tavern, just a brief walk from campus. The bar has a varied and inexpensive menu with daily specials and gluten-free options. It boasts glowing reviews of the chili, gazpacho, and gumbo. Located right on the NC State campus, Champions Bar has a range of specials throughout the week. It also hosts a karaoke night, Texas Hold’em poker, and ladies’ night.

Flex is one of Raleigh’s most popular nightclubs because there’s always something happening here. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Sundays expect to hear karaoke crooning. Wednesday is draft night, Thursday is Trailer Park Prize Night with games and prizes, and Friday is Go-Go Early Night. On Saturday evenings, the venue hosts different special events. You can also head to Noir Bar and Lounge, which is located on Glenwood Avenue. It’s a lively nightclub with exposed brick walls and crystal chandeliers. The DJ plays a mix of top 40 tunes and older music, including patron requests.

Open seven days a week for lunch, dinner, and drinks, 510 Tavern is one of Raleigh’s most popular gastropubs. According to the owner, the goal is to offer “good food, at an affordable price, in a nice atmosphere.” It has a $6.95 lunch menu that offers bites like the smothered prime rib sandwich and fried avocado BLT. On Mondays, you can get crab legs for $12 and $3 refills.

The Red Monkey Tavern is a great place to relax and meet friends in a casual environment. Here you can enjoy great local food, craft brews, and cocktails. One of the unique features of this pub is the wide range of weekly specials. Whether you want to branch out with an artisan cocktail or try a new craft beer, you’ll find something to your taste. Brier Creek Beer Garden, meanwhile, stands above many other pubs in the Raleigh area. It boasts a large selection of craft beers and a comfortable garden where you can enjoy them. Check out the duck enchiladas that everyone’s raving about if you decide to stop by.

The next time you have a night off from studying at NC State, check out any of these nightlife spots for a bite, a drink, or dancing with friends.
