Is there a food that's more loved than pizza? Although people have their disagreements over what makes a pizza great, pretty much everyone can agree that pizza is great. No matter what your pizza preferences are, you'll find a place in Raleigh that serves a pie you like. Take a look at some of the places for the best pizza in Raleigh.

Pizza and Beer

If you believe that there's no better combination than pizza and a nice, cold beer, head over to downtown Raleigh to check out Trophy Brewing. The brewery and pizzeria has a score of 9.2 out of 10 on Foursquare, meaning that the majority of people who visited it loved it, or at least, liked it a lot.

Pizza options at Trophy range from the classic margherita to more creative choices, such as The Indoor Kid, which is a white pizza with caramelized onion, Roma tomatoes and basil, and The Local Celebrity, which has pork belly, brie and brussels sprouts on it. Beer is brewed in-house at Trophy and includes a selection of brews on tap, ranging from a cream ale to a lager and from a pale ale to a porter.

Most Unique Pizzas

While a slice of plain pizza hits the spot, sometimes you want your pizza to be a bit more creative. Lilly's Pizza, in Five Points, has a selection of unique pizza pies for you to choose from. If you want a vegetarian's delight, for example, you can order the Buddha. It's topped with spinach, olives, zucchini and tomatoes, as well as roasted garlic and three types of cheese (cheddar, feta and parmesan). Do you love Thai food? Try the Thai Bhat, which has curry sauce, chicken, baby corn and ginger, along with a host of other Thai-inspired toppings.

Along with creative takes on pizza, Lilly's offers a variety of regular specials, such as a lunch special that includes two slices of regular topping pizza and unlimited soda or a slice and a side salad plus unlimited soda for $7.50.

Build Your Own Pizza

Technically, every pizza place lets you build your own piece. But MOD Pizza's take on build-your-own pizza lets you put as many or as few toppings on a pie as you like, all for the same price. The pizzeria has a selection of pies to get you started, such as the Mad Dog, which has pepperoni, sausage and ground beef, or the Caspian, which has barbecue sauce, gorgonzola, bbq chicken and red onion. You can also order a customized salad to go with your pizza and a handspun milkshake to wash it down with.

NY Style Pizza

If you're craving a slice of New York style pizza in Raleigh, you're in luck. Peri Brothers Pizza sells thin crust pizza by the pie or slice. It's been described by Yelp reviewers as offering the best pizza in Raleigh. In addition to a classic, thin crust pizza, you can order the Queens, which is an upside down Sicilian pizza. The pizzeria also sells speciality pies such as the Bronx, with ricotta cheese and garlic, and the Avene J Masterpiece, with Buffalo mozzarella and basil.
